Nick, dot and stick

Make your toilet paper stick to your nicks!

I wipe it really quit add a dot of antibiotic ointment and then place the toilet paper on. It holds the paper on better and gives it a little ointment to help with infection and scarring.

How to love your waitress

I hate to leave a dirty table when I dine out and it’s especially challenging when dining out with kiddos. I usually take a Ziplock bag with me and as trash piles up, I add it to the bag. At the end of the meal you can throw away the bag or leave it on the table for staff to discard easily. The staff will be happy to see you on your next visit 🙂

No Sweat!

Regular water bottles for kids with the latest cartoons on them typical aren’t insulated so if they have anything with ice in them they sweat.  I place them in coozies and then write their name on the coozie it stops it from sweating and isn’t cold on their hands  and you can label it even when you can’t write on the bottle because it’s too wet or slick.

Clean or Dirty?

I have a simple little thing I do for the dishwasher that helps me know if the dishes are clean or dirty.

When I run the dishwasher, I place a refrigerator magnet on the dishwasher. That way people know I ran it. The person that unloads takes off the magnet and puts it back on the fridge. If there isn’t a magnet on the dishwasher then the dishes are dirty. Simple and easy. No more guess work!

Habits to help

Keep in mind if you have little kids and pets that some of these ideas may have to be tweaked for safety issues.

It’s great to create habits for items so you spend less time searching for things. For instance for at least 15 years, maybe longer, I always put my car keys in my purse as soon as I am finished with my keys. I don’t care if the house in on fire, they do straight into my purse. I have maybe searched for my keys twice in the last 15 years. Probably because someone else used them…

Another thing that has helped me over the years is things like reading glasses, scissors, pens etc. are always tough to find so I got in the habit of every time I walk by any of those items and am headed to a good place for them, I pick them up and take them to the spot. I end up with a pile of pens or 6 pair of readers, or 5 pair of scissors all in one spot and that makes it super easy to find some when I need it.

Another thing I do is buy multiples of things. Like fingernail clippers. I buy 6 pair so no matter where I leave them, I always have a pair near by. Trust me you can only leave them so many places and you will have them close by when you need them.

Lost and Found

I discovered a few tips that have helped me find things quicker and easier:

  1. When you look for something and you finally find it, put it in the first place you looked so next time you’re likely to find it right away since you know where you assume you would put it.
  2. When you’re searching your email for something and it takes several searches, when you finally find it, resend it to yourself with as several of the words you used to find it, typed into the subject line before the subject

Double Duty

I accidentally discovered how to make 2 drawers from just 1 when I accidentally bought silverware trays that were too large to fit in the drawer. I noticed it set perfectly on top and the drawer still opened and closed easily! Now I have less used utensils stored under the silverware. unnamed-9unnamed-10unnamed-8

Read and count

Did you know that not all Kombucha, protein bars, or other snacks are equal even in the same brand. For instance Synergy’s Trilogy has less sugar grams than other varieties so I opt for that one when I drink a Kombucha. My nutrition chiropractor said for me to only drink the ones with 2 grams of sugar or less.

Trilogy-2 grams

Guava Goddess-7 grams

Also, protein bars or snack bars, read each label, certain flavors are less sugary and have less carbs so just because you read one and it seems super high don’t think you can’t have any of them. I read them all and chose one that has less carbs.

Same with soy or maltitol in bars. Some in the same line of bars have more or less or even none of these ingredients where others do, so read all of them and find one that might work for you where others in that brand will not.

Did I or didn’t I?

If you frequently forget if you have taken a pill or not, you can turn the bottle upside down after you take it let yourself know you have in fact taken the pill. Later in the day just put it back to normal. The next dosing time, do the same thing. Or sometimes I will set it on top of another item so when I see it, my memory is jogged that I took it that morning (or evening).

Keep track of what and when you wear something

Most of us can wear our work shirts or blouses at least twice before washing so here are a couple trips to keep your life simple and easy.

If you have worn a shirt before you can turn it inside out and hang it back up that way you know it’s been worn at least once before and you will want to wash it this time rather than hang it back up.

Once you wear a shirt, when you hang it back up, hang it up inside out. You know it’s been worn once and this time you may want to wash it after.

Another way to keep from wearing the same shirt twice in one week is to move the ones you wear to the back and that allows ones not worn to move closer to the front keeping you from accidentally grabbing the same shirt again.
